My Top 5 Fitness Tips for a Healthier, Happier you.

My Definition of a Healthy Lifestyle:

For me, it is all about balance and consistency. There is no better feeling than when you are in the swing of an fun, healthy eating and exercise regime. All aspects of your life will be affected in the most positive way.

“A healthy lifestyle is a combination of balance and consistency. You need to be moving your body regularly, stretching almost everyday eating a diet rich in whole foods, getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water and having positive mindset.”

My Top 5 Fitness Tips

  1. Stretch

  2. Hydrate

  3. High Intensity Interval Training

  4. Avoid Processed Foods

  5. Get Planning

  1. Stretch:

Stretching is so important and should be happening daily. Stretching the muscles keeps them strong, healthy and flexible. We need that elasticity to maintain a range of motion in the joints otherwise the muscles shorten and become tight. … Injured muscles may not be strong enough to support the joints, which can lead to joint injury. Stretching will leave you feeling more open mentally and physically. In my eyes, the holistic benefits outweigh the physical.

2: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!

There are so many benefits to drinking a generous amount of the clear stuff everyday. Not only does it help get the metabolism moving, clearer skin, healthier teeth and bones and reduces fatigue. Water makes up almost two thirds of our body and it plays a vital role in everything from regulating body temperature and reducing injuries (by keeping the joints lubricated)

Fat Loss: When it comes to fat loss, hydration aids metabolism, so keeping our bodies well hydrated is vital in boosting its ability to burn fat.

I recommend between 2-4L per day. Begin the day with a pint of water to get the metabolism moving and shaking early on!

3: High Intensity Interval Training.

Add HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) into your workout regime. It’s the best for boosting your metabolism and getting lean and toned fast.

My favorite HIIT class is F45 in Sandyford which is a combination of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Circuit Training, and Functional Training. - https://f45training.ie/sandyford/ (click link to find out more) not only are the classes different everyday but its a wonderful community to be part of while losing weight and having fun!

If you do HIIT training three to four times a week and couple it with proper nutrition you are putting your body in the best position to melt body fat.

4: Avoid Processed Foods:

Avoid these tampered with foods like the plague. I myself don’t even realize sometimes that what I’m eating is processed. False advertising can have us convinced that something is organic or “whole”. What I like to do is go by the 6 Ingredient Rule. If it has more than 6 ingredients, try and steer clear!! Always check the label and try source your fruit, veg and meats from reputable suppliers.

5: Get Planning: “Fail to plan, plan to Fail”.

Need I say more? Write down all your workouts at the start of every week and look at them like meetings or college lectures, which you wouldn’t skip…so don’t skip your workout!

As I always say, the most important thing in life is to feel good, inside and out. I avoid the weighing scales at all costs, they always threw me into a negative head-space and they still do so I just don’t have one. When it comes to my physical appearance I always go by how I’m feeling in my clothes and if I have been working out consistently then there’s no doubt that I’m feeling good.

Remember, there are no quick and easy fixes. Do your best to figure out what you enjoy and do lots and lots of that. A bit of hard-work and consistency will go a long way!

Get Planning!
